Our Farm Char Biochar™ is made from primarily Houston hardwood species that would have been bound for the landfill. The wood is burned in a way that removes the volatile compounds, but leaves the stable carbon skeleton. It is said that if all the microscopic pores in a fingernail-sized piece of biochar were opened up, it would cover the area of a football field. Biochar holds an incredible amount of water, and releases it when your plant roots need it. It also holds a lot of oxygen and beneficial soil microbes to help your plants thrive. Think of the particles as massive microbe condominiums, packing in a LOT of soil workers in a tiny amount of space to work magic in your garden. No chemicals are ever used.
